Take Me Where The Sun Is Shining
情報ツールが格段の進歩を遂げ、以前は情報が全く入らなかった地域について実に簡単に深く知ることができるようになったことは喜ばしいことの一つである。例えば80ｓの北欧というのはそのような「情報が不確か」な地域の一つであろう。今だ情報の「量」という点では聴き手が自ら進んで探さなければ「とぼしい」という地域ではあるが、以前とは比較にならないくらいの情報に満ち溢れている。今回紹介するアーティストColeske（とはいってもファンの方の間ではすでに知名度がかなり高いですが）の出身地、南アフリカもまた今だ聴き手を（もしくは「が」）選ぶ地域と言えるだろう。
ColeskeはEwald と Arnold の兄弟デュオ。1996年に「S.T.」を21カ国で発表、35万枚以上のセールスを挙げる。シングル"Take Me Where The Sun Is Shining"はthe European Billboard charts において8週間もチャートに残った。2000年にはセカンドアルバム「Faith In Love」を発表、その年の South African Music Award においてBEST POP ALBUMに選出されている。2001年には「Sings Simon and Garfunkel」 というSimon and Garfunkelのカヴァー・アルバムを出している（私は未聴）。
1stも2ndもほぼ「完璧」なPOP/AORであり、全編に渡って捨て曲がない。完膚なまでに叩きのめされ、その浮遊感と暖かさに心踊るメロディと彼等の美しい声に虜になること間違いなし！ここ数年の私のＢＥＳＴには必ず1曲は残るアーティストの一人である。類似アーティストとしていろいろなアーティストの名が挙げられているようだが、彼等のメロディはColeske独自のものであり、日本においても、もっと知られるべきだと思う。私個人は1stが好みですが、みなさんはどうですか？（南アフリカ出身のアーティストの作品はヨーロッパより購入するのがベストだとは思うのですが、送料がもっと安ければ現地からもっと幅広く直接購入もできると思うんですがねえ。次年度また航空機のサーチャージが上がるだろうから送料にも影響が出たり・・なんてね）
